Chinese President Xi Jinping will be visiting the United States from September 23 to 25 at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced on Monday.
Jiakun briefed reporters on Xi's upcoming visit at a press conference on Monday.
"At the invitation of US President Trump, President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States. During the visit, President Xi Jinping and President Trump will have in-depth exchange of views on China-US relations, and major issues concerning world peace and development. Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance to China-US relations. The exchange of visits between the leaders of the two countries within half a year is of historic and milestone significance," Guo said.
"China is willing to work with the United States to enrich the substance of the constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, properly manage differences, deliver more benefits to the people of the two countries, and promote world peace, stability and prosperity," he added.
Trump visited Beijing in May, when the two leaders discussed trade truce, the conflict in Iran and US policy on Taiwan. Xi warned that mishandling Taiwan could push ties into a dangerous situation.
The visit comes as both sides work on possible agreements covering tariffs, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and critical minerals. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met in New York on Sunday ahead of the summit.
